What recovery actually looks like

Recovery from substance use is not a dramatic before-and-after photo. It is an unremarkable Tuesday, repeated.
The stories that get shared publicly tend to be the extremes: the collapse, or the triumphant year sober. The middle — the part that takes the longest — almost never gets told.
In our outreach we describe recovery as a set of ordinary decisions: who you walk home with, what you do at 9pm, who you text when it is bad. Warriors of Well-Being is not a metaphor about willpower; it is about building a routine that does not depend on willpower.
Relapse is part of many journeys and it is not a disqualification from our spaces. Shame keeps people away from help far more effectively than any substance does.
If you are somewhere in that middle, you are welcome here, and you do not have to arrive with a success story.
